\nVerse 4\u00a0\u03c8\u03c5\u03c7\u1fc6\u03c2\u00a0(life<\/em>) soul, and\u00a0\u03c4\u03c1\u1f71\u03c7\u03b7\u03bb\u03bf\u03bd\u00a0(necks<\/em>) used for the entire individual by means of Synecdoche. We know that this is not literal, as verse 3 states… \u201cGreet Priscilla and Aquila…\u201d who must therefore have been alive at that time.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nIn view of Richard C. Trench’s \u201cSynonyms Of The New Testament<\/a> \u201d, we can see the figure of speech Synonymia used in the word simple. These two occurrences of the word simple, as different words that are synonyms, combines the two thoughts, giving us a broader perspective.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nUnsuspecting because of the lack of guile (v18), therefore innocent because of the lack of contamination (v19). The figure Synonymia helps to present a broader understanding by using similar words that do not mean exactly the same thing.
