In this case the concession or admission is made, and may be rightly made,<br \/>\nin order to gain a point. It thus differs from <em>Epitrope<\/em> (see below), where we admit something that is wrong in itself for the sake of argument.<br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Synchoresis<\/em>, therefore, is <em>concession<\/em>, while <em>Epitrope<\/em> is <em>admission<\/em> or <em>surrender<\/em>.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\nThe Latins called it CONCESSIO, concession, while the Greeks had another name<br \/>\nfor it, EPICHORESIS (<em>Epi-i-cho-ree&#8217;-sis<\/em>), an agreement upon a point.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jer. 12:1 \u2014\u201c Righteous art thou, O Lord, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk<br \/>\n(margin; reason the case) with thee of thy judgments; Wherefore doth the way<br \/>\nof the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very treacherously? \u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hab. 1:13 \u2014\u201c Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity; wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest<br \/>\nthy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he? \u201d<br \/>\n<em>etc<\/em>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> Rom. 2:17-20 \u2014All these claims of the Jew are admitted for the sake of argument,<br \/>\nin order to emphasize the weighty reproof in verse 21, \u201c Thou therefore, which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? \u201d <em>etc<\/em>., to the end of verse 23.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> 1 Cor. 4:8 \u2014He concedes the point as to their desire to reign, but ironically adds,<br \/>\n\u201cI would to God ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> 2 Cor. 10:1 \u2014He concedes the point that he was base among them:<br \/>\nbut verses 2 and 11 show that he does so only to gain another point.
