\nMatt. 16:7 \u2014 \u201cAnd they reasoned among themselves, saying,
\nIt is<\/i> because we have taken no bread.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Here the first member of the latter clause is wanting.
\nIt is supplied in the A.V. by the words \u201cIt is\u201d The R.V., not seeing this Ellipsis<\/i>,
\nhas boldly omitted the \u1f45\u03c4\u03b9 (hoti<\/i>) because<\/i>, and translated:\u2014 \u201cAnd they reasoned among themselves, saying, We took no bread\u201d (giving the A.V. in the margin). The Ellipsis<\/i> of the first member is properly filled up thus:\u2014\u201cAnd they reasoned among themselves, saying [Jesus Spoke thus<\/i>, verse 6<\/a>], because we have taken no bread.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mark 3:30 \u2014 \u201cBecause they said, He hath an unclean spirit.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Here the first clause is omitted:\u2014 \u201c[Jesus said this unto them<\/i>], because they said,
\nHe hath an unclean spirit.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n


\nLuke 9:13 \u2014 \u201cHe said unto them, Give ye them to eat.
\nAnd they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

There is something wanting here, which may be thus supplied: \u2014 \u201cWe have no more than five loaves and two fishes; [therefore we are not able to give to them to eat<\/i>] except we should go and buy meat for all this people.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n


\nJohn 5:7 \u2014 \u201cThe impotent man answered him. Sir, [I am indeed willing<\/i>, but<\/i>],
\nI have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool,\u201d etc<\/i>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n


\n2 Thess. 2:3<\/a> \u2014 \u201cLet no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come<\/i>, except there come a falling away first.\u201d (Lit., the apostasy.) The R.V. fills up the Ellipsis<\/i> of the prior member, by the words \u201cit will not be<\/i>,\u201d which is weak and tame compared with the A.V.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What is referred to is the day of the Lord,* mentioned in the preceding verse.
\n\u201cLet no man deceive you by any means: for [the day of the Lord shall not come<\/i>]
\nexcept there come the falling away first:\u201d i.e.<\/i>, the great apostasy, which is the subject of many prophecies, must precede the day of the Lord<\/i>. But it does not precede the day of Christ<\/i>. Hence the saints in Thessalonica might well be troubled if the day of the Lord had set in, and they had not been previously gathered together to meet the Lord in the air in the day of Christ, as had been\u00a0promised (1 Thess. 4:16, 17<\/a>; 2 Thess. 2:1<\/a>).\u2020<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

* Not \u201cthe day of Christ,\u201d as in A.V. The R.V. and the Ancient MSS. and Critical Texts read correctly \u201cthe day of the Lord.\u201d\u2020 See Four Prophetic Periods, by the same author and publisher.
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This is not the popular teaching, but it is the truth of God. Popular theology is very different. It says, \u201cThat day cannot come until the world’s conversion comes.\u201d The Scripture says it cannot come until the apostasy shall have come. Popular theology says the world is not good enough yet for Christ to come. The Scripture teaches that the world is not yet bad enough! The Thessalonian saints believed their teachers, and are an example for all time for holiness of walk and for missionary zeal. People today believe their teachers, and all men see their works!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
