\nAc-cis’-mus<\/i>, a cutting all but through<\/i>, from the Latin, accido<\/i>.
\nThis Figure is so named because it is an apparent or assumed refusal.

\nMatt. 15:22-26.\u2014When the woman of Canaan cried \u201cHave mercy on me, O Lord,
\nthou Son of David,\u201d the Lord did not intend to reject her: but, having no claim
\n(as a Gentile) on Christ as the \u201cSon of David,\u201d He uses the figure Accismus<\/i>, and apparently refuses her request by saying,
\n\u201c I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.\u201d
\n.<\/span>
\n\u201c Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord help me.\u201d
\nBut again, there was no confession as to the \u201cme.\u201d It was not like the Publican,
\n\u201c God be merciful to me a sinner.\u201d It might have been a self-righteous \u201c me.\u201d
\n.<\/span>
\n.<\/span>So the Lord again uses the Figure Accismus<\/i>, but He now combines it with Hypocatastasis<\/i><\/span>; and says:
\n\u201c It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.\u201d
\n.<\/span>
\nNow came the confession she saw the point. She admitted the fact as to her condition as \u201c a dog of the Gentiles,\u201d and said, \u201c Truth, Lord: \u201d and received the blessing which had been determined for her.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
