\nAs’-ter-is’-mos<\/em>. Greek \u1f00\u03c3\u03c4\u03b5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c3\u03bc\u1f41\u03c2<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>, a calling of attention to a thing by making an asterisk (from \u1f00\u03c3\u03c4\u1f75\u03c1<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>, asteer, a star).

\n<\/span><\/span>
\nA marking by putting a star<\/em> {*}, in order to direct particular attention to a passage or statement. Hence the figure is used when we employ (not an asterisk*) but some word, which answers the same purpose, in directing the eye and the heart to some particular point or subject, such as \u201cLo!\u201d \u201cBehold!\u201d

\nAs a concordance will furnish a complete list of these, it is not necessary for us to give examples. We will only note that the word \u201c behold\u201d is not a mere interjection<\/b><\/i>, but is really a verb<\/b>, telling us actually to look and see, and observe and note attentively.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c Behold<\/strong> \u201d seems to be specially the word used by the Holy Spirit as the Inspirer of Scripture: while \u201c Verily<\/strong> \u201d (amen) is the word used by the Lord Jesus; and \u201c Yea<\/strong> \u201d is the word of God the Father.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
