Greek,&nbsp;<span style=\"font-family: SBL Greek;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u03c0\u03c1\u03cc\u03bb\u03b7\u03c8\u03b9\u03c2<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">, <em>a taking beforehand<\/em>, <em>anticipation<\/em>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\nThe Figure is so called when we anticipate what is going to be done, and speak of future things as present. The name is also given to the Figure when we anticipate<br \/>\nwhat is going to be said, and meet an opponent&#8217;s objection. But that <em>Prolepsis<\/em> is distinguished by the further description \u201cOccupatio\u201d; because, in that case,<br \/>\nthe opponent&#8217;s objection is not only anticipated, but seized and taken possession of<br \/>\n(as the word means).<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Whereas <em>Prolepsis<\/em>\u2014when it anticipates <i><b>time<\/b><\/i> which it cannot <i><b>hold<\/b><\/i> or <i><b>keep possession <\/b><\/i>of, but has to <i><b>defer<\/b><\/i> it, after having anticipated it &#8211; is distinguished from the other by the word \u201cAmpliatio\u201d which means an adjourning.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">God Himself used the figure in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Gen&amp;c=1&amp;v=28&amp;t=KJV#28\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gen. 1:28<\/a>, when he spoke to both our first parents as then already present, though the building of Eve did not take place till the time spoken of in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Gen&amp;c=2&amp;v=20&amp;t=KJV#20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chap. 2:20-23<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Exo&amp;c=10&amp;v=29&amp;t=KJV#29\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ex. 10:29<\/a> is proleptic of the final departure of Moses from Pharaoh;<br \/>\nas Moses did speak to him again. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Exo&amp;c=11&amp;v=4&amp;t=KJV#top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">See 11:4-8<\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=1Ki&amp;c=22&amp;v=50&amp;t=KJV#50\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1 Kings 22:50<\/a> (51) \u2014Jehoshaphat&#8217;s death is spoken of proleptically. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=2Ki&amp;c=3&amp;v=1&amp;t=KJV#top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">See 2 Kings 3<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Isa&amp;c=37&amp;v=22&amp;t=KJV#22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Isa. 37:22<\/a> beautifully speaks of the then future rejoicing of Jerusalem at her deliverance from Sennacherib, as already present:<br \/>\n\u201c The virgin, the daughter of Zion, hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn\u201d; <em>etc<\/em>.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Isa&amp;c=48&amp;v=5&amp;t=KJV#top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Isa. 48:5-7<\/a> \u2014Jehovah describes how He had from the beginning spoken of future things in this way, and why He had done so.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Luk&amp;c=3&amp;v=19&amp;t=KJV#19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Luke 3:19, 20<\/a> \u2014The imprisonment of John is recorded by <em>Prolepsis<\/em>.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> Compare <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Mat&amp;c=11&amp;v=2&amp;t=KJV#top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Matt. 11:2<\/a>, <em>etc<\/em>.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Heb&amp;c=2&amp;v=8&amp;t=KJV#8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Heb. 2:8<\/a> \u2014 \u201c Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet.\u201d<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\nThis is said by <em>Prolepsis<\/em>, as it is distinctly declared that. \u201c We see not yet all things put under him.\u201d In like manner we are to understand those Psalms which are written for use in millennial days; especially those commencing \u201c the Lord reigneth.\u201d&nbsp; The Lord does not now reign in the special sense and manner definitely spoken of and described in these and similar Psalms. We use them now (by way of application and) by Anticipation or <em>Prolepsis<\/em>. But the day is coming when they will be used literally, and be true by a real interpretation to the very letter.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\nThere are three Psalms that commence \u201cThe Lord reigneth\u201d: <em>viz<\/em>., <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Psa&amp;c=93&amp;v=1&amp;t=KJV#top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Psa. 93<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Psa&amp;c=97&amp;v=1&amp;t=KJV#top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">97<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Psa&amp;c=99&amp;v=1&amp;t=KJV#top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">99<\/a>; and it is remarkable that they each end with a reference to holiness. This is because, when the Lord does actually reign, as here described, all will be holy. His name will be\u201c hallowed\u201d on earth as it is in heaven. \u201c In that day shall there be upon the bells<br \/>\n(or bridles) of the horses, HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD; and the pots in the Lord&#8217;s house shall be like the bowls before the altar. Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the Lord of hosts\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Zec&amp;c=14&amp;v=20&amp;t=KJV#20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zech. 14:20, 21<\/a>). And it is written in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Isa&amp;c=23&amp;v=18&amp;t=KJV#18\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Isa. 23:18<\/a>: \u201c Her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the Lord.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This is why also, the four living creatures who call for judgments (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Rev&amp;c=6&amp;v=1&amp;t=KJV#top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rev. 6<\/a>.) which shall issue in the Lord&#8217;s reign on earth, do so with the three-fold cry of these three Psalms. \u201c Holy, holy, holy \u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Rev&amp;c=4&amp;v=8&amp;t=KJV#8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rev. 4:8<\/a>). This is why their cry is foretold in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Isa&amp;c=6&amp;v=3&amp;t=KJV#top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Isa. 6:3<\/a> in connection with Adonai upon his \u201c throne, high and lifted up \u201d (verse 1).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\nThe songs and words of the Apocalypse, though then (and for the most part, if not all, now) future, are spoken of as present. In other words they are proleptic, being given to us under the figure <em>Prolepsis<\/em>.<br \/>\nOnly by the use of this figure can we sing many of the hymns which are put into our mouths, when they speak of future heavenly realities as though resurrection had already taken place; which it has not.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\nFrom \u201c<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Figures Of Speech Used In The Bible<\/span><\/em>\u201d by E.
