Greek, <span style=\"font-family: SBL Greek;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u03c3\u03cd\u03bd\u03b8\u03b5\u03c4\u03bf\u03bd<\/span><\/span>,<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> from <span style=\"font-family: SBL Greek;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u03c3\u03cd\u03bd<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> (<i>sun<\/i>), <i>together<\/i>, and <span style=\"font-family: SBL Greek;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u03c4\u03b9\u03b8\u03ad\u03bd\u03b1\u03b9\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">(tithenai), to <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>place<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">.<br \/>\nHence, <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: SBL Greek;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u03c3\u03cd\u03bd\u03b8\u03b5\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> (<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>synthetos<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">) means <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>put together<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">.<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\nIt is used of this Figure because two words are by common usage joined by a conjunction for the sake of emphasis, as when we say \u201c time and tide,\u201d \u201cend and aim,\u201d \u201crank and fortune.\u201d<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\nIt differs from <span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>Synthesis<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> (<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>q.v.<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">). And also from <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>Hendiadys<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">, where only one thing is meant, though two are used (see <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>Hendiadys<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">).<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Psa&amp;c=115&amp;v=13&amp;t=KJV#13\">Psa. 115:13<\/a> \u2014 \u201cSmall and great.\u201d<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blbclassic.org\/Bible.cfm?b=Act&amp;c=7&amp;v=22&amp;t=KJV#22\">Acts 7:22<\/a> \u2014 Moses was \u201cmighty in words and in deeds.\u201d<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span
