*v1
Looking back from the vantage point of something that is second in time, the first could also be called the former.

The term “third heaven” is used in 2 Corinthians 12:2, but the term “third earth” is not used, nor can it be assumed in terms of kainos. It can be understood in terms of neos, as the Earth had become without form and void and darkness in Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. The original (new-kainos) Earth still existed in verse 2, however, it was no longer new (neos) in condition. Then begins the renewing (neos) of the Earth in chapter 1.
This would make the present situation a “second” Earth in terms of neos, nevertheless it is still the first Earth in terms of kainos. A second Heaven follows the same pattern, as we see God “setting” the heavenly bodies in their places in chapter 1 of Genesis. The Heaven we see now is still the original (kainos), but it is new (neos) in its arrangement.
When we consider the meanings of neos and kainos we can then understand how a second (kainos) Heaven and Earth can also be a third (neos) Heaven and Earth.

2Co 12:1 KJV – “It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.

2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.”
One of the visions of verse 1 is the “I knew” of verse 2. “I knew” here is the Greek word
οἶδα , which means to see or perceive.

kainos vs neos
Neos is subjective (new compared to itself in time. [freshhow it is])
Kainos is objective (new compared to something else [
differentwhat it is])
Example: The wine was too new [
fresh; neos],
so they brought some new [
different; kainos] wine.

Regardless of whether the former heaven and earth were the first, second, or any other number in sequence, they still are former in respect to the new (kainos).
